I have more than ten years of experience working as a researcher at leading universities, and as a copy editor and proofreader in diverse genres. I earned my PhD in Geography and Sustainable Development in 2017 at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. Since then, I have published over fifteen articles in high-ranking peer-reviewed journals and have had my work cited by peers hundreds of times.
I understand the power that good editing can hold for getting a paper accepted or a thesis approved.
While holding particular expertise in the social sciences and humanities (human geography, sociology, anthropology, sustainability transitions, organisational studies etc.), I have extensive experience editing the work of authors in the natural sciences, as well as more journalistic non-fiction texts. I am comfortable working across both British and American English, and can work to the house style of the journal or publication you specify, including for references.
I am also experienced in other literary styles, including creative non-fiction, blogs and documentary scripts. From 2014 onwards, I worked as a non-fiction editor for the well-known literary project Dark Mountain and have written articles for a variety of leading outlets, such as OpenDemocracy and Resilience.org.

I have published over fifteen widely cited peer-reviewed academic articles, as well as many other book chapters, public-facing articles and blogs.
Professional editing versus Chat GPT?
While digital and AI text tools such as Grammarly and Chat GPT have improved in recent years, there is no substitute for the eye of a native language editor, particularly in academic work. While digital tools are adequate for some basic tasks, they will fail to grasp the nuance and line of argument of an entire piece, and thus miss much of the context of your writing. As a native language editor, I can assure a quality of work which AI can never achieve.
My editing can fully grapple with the social and political context of the words you use. Also, as an experienced and widely published academic, I can understand the context of where you are trying to publish, and what style and tone is suitable for this target audience. This awareness will be crucial for getting your work successfully in front of the desired audience.
It is equivalent to craftsmanship, as opposed to standardised mass production, and your writing deserves the best.
